Genetic studies on the protein content of four positive and negative crosses among rice cultivars showed that the content was different in their offspring. The protein content of F_2 showed a nearly normal continuous distribution, but the average value of F_2 was not equal to the median of parents, but rather to the parent close to the median. The general heritability of F_2 was 39-78%, and the correlation between F_2 and F_3 was r = 0.515 and r = 0.635, respectively.
