磺胺类药物及其片剂含量测定的法定方法是以碘化鉀淀粉为外指示剂的重氮化法,但此法的終点掌握相当困难,难得滿意的分析结果。 1956年,日人掛見喜一郞氏等对磺胺类药物重氮化测定法提出了新的、易于掌握的、灵敏指示剂——对二甲氨其苯甲醛。根据在酸性条件下,磺胺与对二甲氨基苯甲醛縮合生成黄色化合物,俟磺胺重氮化完全后則不再呈黄色,以指示终点。反应式如下:
