Cystatin C is a low-molecular-weight protein that is constant in the body and passes freely through the glomerular filtration membrane. It is almost completely degraded in the proximal tubules and is not secreted by the tubules. Affected by the pathological status of the body, age, gender, muscle mass, etc., it is considered to be an ideal endogenous marker of glomerular filtration rate. Glomerular filtration rate is an important indicator of renal function, and close monitoring of graft function is necessary to detect acute and chronic rejection or drug-induced nephrotoxicity. This article reviews the progress of Cystatin C in the field of renal transplantation.
