《祖先游戏》是一部反映多元文化社会中的移民身份困境和民族心理诉求的作品,同时,也是一部具有独特叙事策略的优秀文本。小说的叙事围绕主题呈现出地域并置、人物融合以及文本映照等多种空间结构特征。在小说中,零散的情节通过对立的空间概念取得了叙述的整一性,展现了中心与边缘,东方传统与西方文明之间的对立和融合;人物的空间存在通过跨时空的对话实现融合,凸现了移民家族和个人的宿命;而文本空间中的情节比照、视角转换和异质空间构成了文本的繁复之美,使得文本本身呈现出对话性。通过小说的独特空间叙事,米勒进行了超越时间和历史的身份思辨。
Ancestral Games is a piece of work reflecting the dilemma of immigration status and national psychological demands in a multicultural society. It is also an excellent text with unique narrative strategies. The narrative of the novel presents a variety of spatial structure features such as geographical juxtaposition, character integration and text mapping around the theme. In the novel, the fragmentary plot obtains the integrity of the narration through the concept of the opposite space, showing the opposition and fusion between the center and the edge, the oriental tradition and the western civilization. The space existence of the characters achieves the integration through dialogue across time and space, Highlighting the fate of immigrant families and individuals; and textual plots, perspectives and heterogeneous spaces constitute the complex beauty of the text, making the text itself presents a dialogue. Through the novel’s unique space narrative, Miller conducted the speculation of identity beyond time and history.
