[World Nuclear News Web Site, November 17, 2014] The first molybdenum-99 produced in Canada using linear accelerators has been shipped off production facilities, implying a significant milestone in the use of non-reactor technology for the production of medical isotopes. The molybdenum-99 is produced by the Canadian Medical Isotope Project (MIP) using the Canadian Light Source (CLS) linear accelerator located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The medical isotope project bombarded a concentrated molybdenum-100 target with high energy X-rays generated by a CLS particle accelerator to produce
