周密《癸辛杂识》和马端临《文献通考》所言“乾淳体”是对乾淳科场时文风尚的综合性表述,其内涵包括道学家和浙东事功学派的创作。两者都是对绍兴科场谄谀之风的反拨,只是侧重不同。道学家文重义理、轻文法,同时又试图援义理入科举程文;永嘉学者重事功、求实效,所作时文斟酌篇章,讲求修辞,形成独具特点的“永嘉体”。
