In this report,domestically-made class 10020 0-8-0 electric locomotives for steep slope trunk line use will be introduced.These locomotives were all direct current type and designed by the Railway Agency of Japan called as ‘Tetsudo-in’,and its Omiya works made/constructed them from 1919 to 1923.There were prototype electric locomotives for the purpose of design and manufacture of class 10020 locomotives. They were class 10000 (0-6-0) build by the AEG/Esslingen imported from Germany in 1912. We will present these four contents in this report,as follows. 1)The first practical use of electric railway system in Japan and manufacture of the mine type small-sized electric locomotive. 2)Electrification of the steep slope trunk line of Railway Agency of Japan. 3)A short history of the class 10020 electric locomotives constructed by the Omiya works of Railway Agency of Japan. 4)A mechanical engineering heritage,class 10020 electric locomotives.
