作为民间艺术的一支,上海金山农民画可以说是在江南民间艺术土壤中发出的新芽,但其成长却十分迅速,在20世纪70年代末创立现代民间绘画的新风格,并于1980年赴比利时参加布鲁塞尔国际博览会,受到中外专家的一致肯定。张仃先生一生推崇民间美术,并从中汲取养分,所创作的漫画、壁画、装饰画等具有浓郁的东方风骨和十足的中国气派,也折射出民间美术强大的生命力。但张仃先生的艺术又不乏时代气息和现代感,这不仅是因为他能够“钻”进民间美术中去,还因为他能不受其约束,从中跳出,同时又能吸收西方现代艺术精华。在这方面,张仃先生无疑是我们的杰出榜样。
