Taking advantage of the copper-bearing natural resources of Daye Iron Mine, WISCO piloted eight batches of copper-containing steel rails from 1958 to 1964 and formally started trial production in the second half of 1966. The performance of common carbon copper-containing rail (WP1) meets the technical requirements. Compared with ordinary carbon rail without copper, it has good strength, hardness, toughness and ductility, low magnification, Deflection, wear resistance and fatigue resistance, while rail copper can also improve anti-notch sensitivity, within the scope of the design components, copper on the rail no significant aging effect. After being laid for three months and nine months, the wear resistance of WP1 rail steel increased from 10.3% to 25.1% and its atmospheric corrosion resistance increased by 21% to 76% compared with the conventional carbon rail laid over the same period. From 1966 to 1974, 470,000 tons have been produced for socialist construction.
