Objective: To investigate the effect of recombinant human interleukin-1α (IL-1) on the rolling and adhesion of rat microvascular leucocytes. Methods: High magnification microscopic TV amplification was used to observe the changes of white blood cells in rat spine oblique microcirculation specimens. Results: IL-1 (0.125-0.75 mg · kg-1) ip significantly promoted the leukocyte rolling and adhesion in microvessels with a significant dose-response relationship. The leukocyte rolling increased from normal 4 ± 1 to 78 ± 9.0 min-1 after 3 min of administration (0.5 mg · kg -1). Leukocytes adhered to the microvascular wall increased from 1.0 ± 1.0 to 14.0 ± 3.0 from normal for each 80 μm vessel 30 min after IL-1 administration. Conclusion: IL-1 promotes leukocyte rolling and adhesion in the spina bifida muscle in rats.
