According to the World Health Organization (WHO) report, the number of cancer deaths in the world in 1997 was about 6.2 million, ranking third in the world’s leading causes of death. Recent surveys in China also show that cancer deaths rank first and second in the death causes of urban and rural residents in China. Globally, the number of cancers in the last 20 years of the 20th century has been rising year by year. In 1990, there were about 8.07 million new cases of cancer worldwide, compared with 1975.
