In the United States, people call the twentieth century “an era of anxiety.” The explosion of knowledge, the rapid change and development of science, technology, politics, economy, culture and even the whole society have profoundly affected all aspects of modern life. In this ever-changing and rapidly changing society, people feel overwhelmed at the difficulties they face, while others feel desperate, and quite a few of them want to temporarily escape the reality through drug abuse. Since the 1960s, the phenomenon of drug abuse in U.S. society has become increasingly serious. The increase in the number of drug abusers and the younger age groups of drug abusers are attracting more and more people’s attention. Many slang articles related to narcotic drug / psychedelic drug / narcotics / drug have also emerged in newspapers, magazines, movies, and television. Such as dope refers to any kind of drug slang.
