The development of post-war European Social Democrats is a phenomenon deserved to be studied in depth in the international situation. The Second International, founded in 1889, was originally an international organization of social-democratic parties under the banner of Marxism. World War I led to its division. With the rise of the Third Communist International, European Social Democrats have been in a tragic condition. However, after World War II, it received the conditions for redevelopment. In the 1980s, especially after the drastic changes in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, it spread to almost all parts of the world. The Second International was originally composed of only 40 members and today Social-Democratic International has 143 members and observers.
