应尽早查明耳聋,在2岁时查出耳聋或在4岁时查出中度听力减退都已太迟。许多国家的多数婴儿是在医院出生的,有些医院用摇篮测听等方法对新生儿作全面检查。然而如在出生时就查出耳聋也未免为时过早,因为我们不能给以什么帮助。帮助听力减退的小儿涉及两个问题,一是多数病例无法治疗;一是不能只帮助病孩一人,而至少要帮助三个人(一家人)。只有中耳病才能作手术,内耳和前庭耳蜗神经损害是不能治愈的。助听器不是治愈听力减退,而只是帮助患者减轻因听力差而带来的问题。由于听力差患儿难以和父母交谈,语言的学习和言语的发育形成都发生困难。当父母了解到孩子听力有问题时,精神上受到沉重的打击,患儿听觉和言语障碍对父母引起继发性反应;认识 Deafness should be ascertained as soon as possible, detecting deafness at 2 years of age or detecting moderate hearing loss at 4 years of age too late.
