In ancient Greece, “myth ” is usually presented in the form of poetry, especially epics, singing poems and tragedies. This paper uses “poetry Pragmatics ”as the theoretical framework to explore the value of the performance that these forms of poetry confer on heroes’ narratives of the times and how poetry performances are integrated into the practice of rituals. Through the medium of poetic performance, the heroes of the past are associated with contemporary ritual practices, and the heroic world is transformed into an imaginary fiction. This world is neither a myth of modern sense nor a history, but a direct symbolic and practical form of playing a direct role for the community of citizens present.
