从1997年在北京召开的中国科学院、中国工程院增选院士选举结果新闻发布会上获悉:1997年中国科学院、中国工程院院士增选工作已经结束,新增选中国科学院院士58名,中国工程院院士116名。至此,中国科学院院士总数达到610人,中国工程院院士总数达到439人。 在这次推荐评选活动中,中国地质学会推荐的候选人王德滋、田在艺当选为中国科学院院士,陈毓川当选为中国工程院院士。他们是从47位申请中国科学院院士候选人中和37位申请中国工程院院士候选人中
From 1997, a press conference was held in Beijing on the results of the election of Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Academy of Engineering to increase the number of selected academicians.
