亚洲电视奖创建初期,并不被在亚洲的电视媒体列强所重视,1997年第二届亚洲电视奖所设的23个项目的金牌,大部分被东南亚国家和地区所得,前三甲分别是:新加坡:6块,菲律宾:6块,印度:3块,之后是中国、马来西亚、香港各2块,印尼、韩国各1块。新加坡电视公司(TCS)以总积分最高荣获当年亚洲地区最佳媒体称号。这个格局进入21世纪后开始发生变化。一方面,新加坡政府为了促进竞争,给TCS树立了一个对手,即优频道,优频道的出现瓜分了TCS的实力。而更重要的原因是跨国电视媒体,如MTV、CNN(亚洲)、迪斯尼、探索频道的加盟和日本、韩国及台湾电视媒体的介入,使“亚洲电视运动会”的竞争更加国际化,更加激烈。
The initial stage of the Asia Television Awards was not emphasized by the television media powers in Asia. The gold medal of the 23 projects set up by the 2nd Asia Television Awards in 1997 was mostly derived from Southeast Asian countries and regions. The top three are: Singapore : 6, Philippines: 6, India: 3, followed by China, Malaysia, Hong Kong each 2, Indonesia, South Korea each one.
