Changes in WTO and Sinopec’s market rules have significantly weakened the government’s administrative protection of the domestic petrochemical industry. This undoubtedly poses a serious challenge to the Chinese petrochemical industry in the domestic market, and its market share is at a risk of further declining. However, WTO accession has also provided opportunities for the development of China’s petrochemical industry. The coexistence of opportunities and challenges does not mean that the two are equal. As China’s petrochemical industry compared with foreign counterparts in general do not have comparative advantages, but compared with developed countries, especially those powerful multinationals, it is obviously at a disadvantage. Therefore, in general, although the petrochemical industry does not belong to the most hit industries after its accession to the WTO, its challenges are greater than opportunities. The direct reason is its lack of competitiveness. Faced with the opportunities and challenges after China’s accession to the WTO, China’s petrochemical industry must take proactive measures in response to changes in its own characteristics and objective conditions. By integrating its petrochemical industry in China, the petrochemical industry in China can achieve strong alliances, complement each other’s strengths, strengthen the group operations and nurture Group advantages to improve industrial concentration and enhance cooperation with multinational corporations
