Filming in the movies, serving the community and solving real world problems have always been the focus of the Berlin Film Festival. Just as the first armed conflicts that took place in the Syrian civil war and spread to the Middle East, European countries are working hard to resolve similar crises in a humanitarian spirit. In Germany, Merkel’s open door policy (approaching nearly a million refugees in Germany in 2015 alone) and her so-called “German welcome culture” have prompted the implementation of a series of generous public acts . Unfortunately, however, anti-foreigners’ neo-Nazi extremists also show signs of restoration. As a result, the focus of the Berlin Film Festival in 2016 on film and documentary films dealing with the plight of refugees and displaced persons in different parts of the world has also caused some shock.
