In the 63rd question of the ErrorCorrection in the 1991 English Examination Paper for the Master’s Entrance Examination, I did not dare to agree with the “Reference Answer” that the sentence A was wrong and should be replaced by except or but. It is true that there is usually a difference between the meaning of besides and except. The former means “except (...)”. The latter means (in addition to).
