For various historical reasons, there are currently three common languages in Belgium. Dutch is spoken in the northern part of the country, French is spoken in the southern part and German is used in a few other parts. The commonality of the three public languages brings a lot of inconvenience to people’s lives. In particular, national civil servants and company employees who work in Brussels, capital of the country, receive people from all over the country on a daily basis so they not only have to speak French but also Dutch and German.
