井口τ值是由埋置在井口附近的井口检波器所接收到的时间值,它来自井底的直达波初至传播时信息,常以毫秒计值。在野外地震记录上,是从爆炸信号到井口脉冲信号的计时值。τ值应用的现状目前,常将τ值直接应用于静校正中的井深校正上,这种校正是把震源位置从井底校正到地面上。τ值的直接引用,由主客观因素干扰所造成的τ值误差,势必直接影响到井深校正的精度,有时这种误差还很大。因此,为确保校正精度,人们逐渐地不再应用τ值作井深校正,τ值信息因此被冷落。
