Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV) can cause serious outbreaks of human and livestock infections in Africa and the Arabian Peninsula and its potential for popularization outside of endemic areas calls for rapid, safe and effective vaccines. The authors demonstrate here an efficient way to reverse-genetically engineer RVV viral replicon particles (VRPRVF) vaccine candidates. The authors demonstrate that VRPRVF immunization with the mouse model provides the best balance of safety and single dose potency.
