洛阳是唐三彩出土最多的地区之一。唐三彩是一种独特的美术陶瓷,是唐代铅釉陶器的总称。在同一器物上,黄、绿、白或黄、绿、蓝、赭、黑等几种基本釉色同时交错使用,经窑变形成了釉色斑斓的唐三彩。它在器物造型、装饰或者釉色、施釉工艺各个方面,均在陶瓷史上开创了一个新的时代。高宗、武则天时期,由于国力增强,统治阶级的奢侈之风日盛,达官显贵们期盼死后仍能享受荣华富贵,在墓中随葬了为数可观的三彩器,而且唐三彩
