Objective To investigate the clinical significance of neuron-specific enolase (NSE), S-100β protein and Ca2 + in children with simple and complex febrile seizures. Methods Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to detect the levels of NSE and S-100β in 37 children with febrile seizures. The level of Ca2 + was detected by electrode method. Among them, 21 febrile seizures (simple febrile seizures) 16 cases of febrile seizures in children (complex febrile seizures group). Twenty normal fever children were selected as the control group. Results The levels of serum NSE and S-100β protein in simple febrile seizure group and complicated febrile seizure group were significantly higher than those in control group (P <0.05), while those in simple febrile seizure group and control group were significantly higher than those in control group (P> 0.05). There was significant difference in serum Ca2 + level between the complicated febrile seizure group and the control group (P <0.05), and the difference between the febrile seizure group and the simple febrile seizure group The levels of serum NSE and S-100β in convulsion group were significantly different (P <0.05), while there was no significant difference in serum Ca2 + level between complicated febrile seizure group and simple febrile seizure group (P> 0.05). Conclusions The serum levels of NSE and S-100β in children with febrile seizures are higher than those in normal febrile children and increase with the severity of seizures, which may be used as one of the serum markers in the seizure process. Although children with simple febrile seizures Ca2 + levels decline, but not as a monitoring indicator.
