The Army’s Missile Defense Program is developing an adaptive data processing system that will allow interceptor missile guidance and control devices to make tactical decisions, like human brains, in response to detector inputs and computer logic. Advanced signal and data processing technologies are part of an advanced technology program that will make interceptor missiles more autonomous and effective in searching and destroying enemy warheads. Army officials said that the rapid development of technology in some areas of technology would fundamentally change the performance of the ABM system and eventually lead to smaller and less expensive weapon systems.
