Definition of Contrast-Induced NephropathyrnContrast-induced nephropathy (CIN),also called contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CI-AKI),is a leading cause of hospital-acquired AKI as a possible complication of intravenous contrast media administration.(1-3) Since there are several definitions and classifications on AKI,thus the definition of CI-AKI is also unique.(4,5) At present, the definition by the Contrast Media Safety Committee (CMSC) of the European Society of Urogenital Radiology (ESUR) is the most widely used CIN definition, which refers to an absolute increase in serum creatinine of at least 25% or 0.5 mg/dL (44 μ mol/L) from the baseline value, assessed 48-72 h after contrast media intravascular administration.(5)
