Multiple myeloma (MM) is a malignant tumor of plasma cells. Myeloma cells originate from B memory cells or meiotic cells. Cytokine Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a regulatory factor that promotes the differentiation of B cells into plasma cells. Abnormal IL-6 levels in the bone marrow of patients with progressive MM suggest that IL-6-centered cytokine network dysregulation leads to proliferation of myeloma cells.
