孟郊(751～814),唐诗人,字东野,浙江武康(今属德清)人,少年时隐居嵩山,性狷介,与韩愈交谊颇深,近五十岁才中进士,任漂阳县尉。郑余庆为东都留守,署郊为水陆转运通判官,郑余庆镇兴元,又奏为参谋,孟郊逝世,张籍私谥曰“贞曜先生”。孟郊的诗多寒苦之音,感伤自己的遭遇,用字造句力避平庸浅率,追求瘦硬,长于五言古诗,与贾岛齐名,有“郊寒岛瘦”之称。他的诗最为韩愈所称道,存《孟东野集》。
