“闲情”,就是闲适生活中的情致。所谓“闲适生活”的标准,往往因人、因时、因地而有很大的差异。在今天大多数的中国人看来,衣食无虞而小有积蓄,早晚莳弄些花草,周末逛逛商场,看看电视,就算是“闲情”了;或者对于小知识分子来说,还包括’红袖添香夜读书”的内容;而在三百年前的李渔看来,“闲情”的内涵又自不同,那至少应当包括拥美妾、观歌舞、居园林、见山水等等的节目。这,我们只要看他的《闲情偶记》,就可以明白了。 李渔,字笠翁,浙江兰溪人,明万历三十九年(1611年)出生于江苏如皋,幼时即有才名,以五经受知学台,补博士弟子,少壮擅诗词古文,有才子称。三十岁以前,应过几次乡试,不幸落第,又值丧乱,不免败兴。自此以后,渐走入放浪生活,索性连举业也荒废了。紧接着就是甲申之变,明亡清起,其间他大概也感受些离乱之苦,不久便剃了发,做清朝的顺民了。顺治丁亥,浙事初定,笠翁移家杭州,大概住了有十几年光景。顺治十四五年,又厌倦了,便迁至金陵,一直住了二十年。现在仍常见到的《芥子园画谱》的“芥子园”,就是他在金陵时的别业。
