Granular activated carbon filter bed reactor (GACFBR) is an efficient water treatment system. It is a very economical way to degrade organic matter in water. Like benzene, aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons and organic acids, only a relatively short residence time in the filter bed has a higher processing rate. There are many examples that show that the system is effective in removing organic matter from water after degreasing to meet the surface discharge requirements of the produced water. In addition, reduce the TDS concentration first before meeting ground emission requirements. Wyoming experiments include degreasing and removal of organic matter from water by GACFBR. Because of the high concentration of organic acids in the water, the experiment set up a two-stage FBR system --- anaerobic and aerobic FBR system to process the produced water. Removal of organic matter can be observed even if previous degreasing operations are not appropriate. Discharge oils and greases (O & G) at a concentration of 53 mg L in water and less than 5 mg L after flotation. Most of the organic acids (such as BTEX, acetate) removal results are close to or below the test standards. Based on the above results, the treatment of organic matter (degreasing with GACFBR after removal of organic matter in the water) is daily 4 0 0bbl produced water. The total cost, including the 10-year depreciation expense, is $ 0 068 a barrel. The O & M cost of a single-stage aerobic treatment system is about $ 0 020 a barrel
