Researchers at the University of Maryland recently discovered that artificially and controlled introduction of lattice defects into the graphene lattice can produce localized magnetic fields that have a similar effect on the probability of scattering of conductive electrons as Kondo effect. The researchers hope this discovery makes graphene can be used to make magnetic sensors and magnetoresistive random access memory.
