In particular, Turgenev’s over-interpretation of Hamlet and Tolstoi’s total negation of Shakespeare are the issues and phenomena of concern to Shakespearean studies. This article roughly sorts out the history of Shakespeare ’s acceptance in Russia during this period and gives a more in - depth academic analysis of two cases of misreading and repudiating Shakespeare and puts forward his own views.
