This part of this paper traces the early development of broadband dual channel directional systems. The entire system is covered in the System Overview section, then the Antenna, Die Former, and Test Equipment. It then details the design and features of the four, six and eight-armed spirals, with a focus on the most practical quad-helix design issues. This article provides some rarely seen in the past, such as the bimodal spiral radiation impedance and reference surface rotation. And for the first time introduced another kind of spiral system - the classical hyperbola helix in the double mode radiator application. Various implementations of arithmetic subsystems are also discussed, which are used to process the signals received by the multi-line radiators for final detection. The last section summarizes this section and covers the topics to be discussed in the second section of this article. The second part of this article will be continued in the next issue.
