In the early hours of January 26, 2005, a CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter in Iraq crashed in the western desert of Iraq, killing 31 people on the plane. This is the single-largest death toll since the U.S. Marines took a suicide attack in Beirut in Lebanon in 1983. Although the cause of the accident was secretively concealed by the U.S. military, it is an indisputable fact that the Super Stallion is too old. 44 years ago, the United States Marine Corps chose it. Before the accident, the United States Marine Corps equipped with a total of 151 CH-53E. Since 1981, 35 major accidents have occurred in the CH-53 helicopter, causing an average of 3.2 major accidents in an average of 100,000 hours.
