OBJECTIVE: To study the expression and correlation of signal transducer and activator of transcription3 (STAT3) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) gene in Kazakh esophageal cancer. To explore the mechanisms of esophageal cancer in Kazakh lay the foundation. Methods: The expression of STAT3 and VEGF gene in 30 cases of Kazakh esophageal cancer tissues and corresponding paracancerous tissues (surgical margin cancer-free tissues) were detected by RT-PCR. Results: The positive rates of STAT3 and VEGF in 73 cases of esophageal cancer tissues were 73.33% (22/30) and 76.67% (23/30), respectively. The positive rate of STAT3 and VEGF gene expression was 43.33% (13.33% / 30). The positive rates of both genes in cancer tissues were higher than those in adjacent tissues (P <0.05). STAT3 and VEGF gene expression was correlated (P <0.05). Conclusion: The expression of STAT3 and VEGF may be related to the occurrence of esophageal cancer in Kazak, which may have a synergistic effect to promote the occurrence of esophageal cancer.
