赫伊津哈的作品有着十分鲜明的两大特色:激情与对比。激情来自于对形式的强调。在其代表作《中世纪的秋天》中,以各种形式和风格的问题,列举出了激情和形式之间的种种联系。从某种意义上来说,“形式和激情的联系甚至涵盖了这本书的核心问题”。对比是其著作中出现的一个重要元素。这些出现的对比在历史中真实存在过,也是在一种和谐的平衡关系中的相对比较。在赫伊津哈来看,对比的极致自然是中世纪和文艺复兴的对比,这一对在很多其他学者看来的针锋相对的尖锐矛盾,却在赫伊津哈的眼中实现了“对比中的和谐”。在现代与古代的对比中,赫伊津哈认识到了现代的浪漫主义运动对古罗马文化传承的一种颠覆,对比中获得的启示一目了然。
Hue Jinha’s work has two distinct characteristics: passion and contrast. Passion comes from the emphasis on form. In his masterpiece “Autumn in the Middle Ages,” various forms and styles of problems are cited, and the links between passion and form are listed. In a sense, “the connection between form and passion covers even the core issue of the book.” Contrast is an important element in his book. The comparison of these appearances is true in history and is also a relative comparison in a harmonious balance. In Hu Jin-Jin’s view, the extreme contrast of nature is the contrast between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. This pair of sharp contradictions, which appear to many other scholars to be diametrically opposed, have achieved “harmony in contrast” ". In the contrast between modernity and ancient times, Hu Jin-Jin recognized the subversion of ancient Roman culture inherited by the modern romanticism movement. The revelation obtained in contrast is clear at a glance.
