In the early 1990s, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) began to think that the Asia-Pacific region will rule the world’s regular air cargo market. In the next 15 years, Vietnam and China will remain the major countries with sustained traffic growth in the Asia-Pacific region. Vietnam will be at the forefront of the growth in international passenger traffic between 1993 and 2010, with an average annual growth rate of 17.3% and China will be 12.6% second. By 2010, total passenger traffic in China will reach 62.3 million, second only to Japan and Hong Kong. International passenger transport in Vietnam, China and Indonesia has a lower starting point and therefore higher growth rates.
