11月18日上午9时,随着一声号令,马达轰鸣,正常运转7年的合肥机场二次雷达天线被吊起,从此拉开了一、二次雷达合装的序幕。所谓一次雷达,就是接收飞机机身直接反射回来的波束;二次雷达,就是接收飞机发送的应答码回波。一、二次雷达合装就是将一次雷达天线与二次雷达天线分上下安装在一起。1991年从意大利引进的航管的二次雷达正式落户合肥机场,使合肥机场从程序管制过渡到雷达监控下的程序控制,管制员通过雷达屏幕能清楚看到管制区域内的飞行动态,对保障飞行安全起到了极大的促进作用。到目前为止,该套雷达已整整服役了7年,正常指挥进近机场航班6万架次,指挥进出管制区的各类飞机达60万架次,雷达已真正成为航空飞行的“千里眼”。这次新装的航管一次雷达是民航总局空管局利用日元贷款,投资近2000万元从意大利引进的,它的使用将使管制员能从雷达屏幕上看到没有机载应答器的飞机。合肥机场的技术人员发扬连续作战精神,精心组织,合理安排,争取用最短时间,完成一、二次雷达
