曾有人问林丰俗作画关捩如何,答日:“夕阳芳草寻常物,解用都为绝妙词。”这个名句包含的既是一个方法,也是一种心态及一种情怀。它虽未必适合所有画家,却是解读林丰俗作品的最佳视角。作为当代岭南最具实力的山水画家,林丰俗的特质不在于大山大水和突兀离奇。面对自然客体的庞大资源,他选择了一个最适合自己的切入角度——乡村田园母题。田土村居,杂花生树,南方乡野的寻常景致一经他大胆地纳入艺术领域,再以鲜活灵动的笔墨语言出之,物象每每便带上一种含蓄的意韵,一种有如咏物诗般的隽永。很明显,林丰俗不太愿意居高临下地强调自己的审美发现,他对观画者采取了一种真诚、平等的交流方式。同样,这个角度也适合考察他雍容自信的运笔用墨规则。由此不难看到,林丰俗着力传达的是一种平淡自然、质朴无饰之情。
