小班化的最初出现是因为家长希望自己的孩子得到教师更多的关注,有机会享受更优质的教育资源,而班额过大无疑减少了这种可能性,于是管理上和常规班级有所不同的所谓小班化实验出现了。从一定意义上说,小班教学是基础教育在努力提供优质教育资源的过程中出现的新生事物。2000年5月,九江市教育局为了改变高成班额的小学办学现状,决定并开始在市直长虹小学进行小班英语教学实验。长虹小学在近几年的教学实践中,克服建校时间短、底子薄和各种教学设施都很缺乏的困难,坚持不懈,积极探索出了一种孩子向往、家长期待、老师欢迎的小班英语教学模式。
