Upon excitation of porphyrin or perylene subunit, the porphyrin-perylene dyad exhibitsreversible fluorescence emitting and quenching by formation and neutralization of the protonatedporphyrin subunit, thereby providing a prototype of molecular fluorescence switch working in anexpanded spectral range.
