金圣叹的小说批评,从“文”而不是“道”的立场出发,贯穿着强烈的小说修辞意识,它具体体现在“文法”理论建构,重视文本的细读与形式技巧分析以及用反讽眼光描写人物与事件等方面。另外,金圣叹的小说修辞对文本的重视是以沟通作者与读者关系为前提的,重视作者因素和读者因素在小说修辞效果形成中的作用,重视小说批评对读者的引导作用,这不同于西方以文本为中心的修辞观念与批评理论,对于中国小说修辞意识的发展亦具有一定意义。
