The author extracted Brazilian propolis with distilled water at 80 °C for 2 h, filtered, and the filtrate was evaporated to a portion of water and lyophilized to obtain an aqueous extract. The water-insoluble fraction was extracted by refluxing with methanol and then extracted with chloroform to obtain a methanol extract and a chloroform extract, respectively. The methanol extract was further partitioned and extracted to dissolve in the ethyl acetate portion and the ethyl acetate insoluble portion.
