Objective To investigate the relationship between plasma levels of inflammatory cytokines (IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α, C-RP) and glucose metabolism and insulin resistance (IR) in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) Methods The levels of inflammatory cytokines and other related indicators in 60 healthy subjects and 60 T2DM patients were detected and statistically analyzed. Results The levels of inflammatory cytokines and FPG in T2DM group were higher than those in normal control group. The levels of TNF-α and C-RP were positively correlated with HbA1c and IR index (P <0.05). Conclusion Plasma levels of IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α and C-RP are correlated with the occurrence and development of T2DM. TNF-α and C-RP are important indicators of glucose metabolism disorder and IR in T2DM.
