It was not until 1905 that such a route was seriously challenged by the first generation of new modernists. This article takes the painters and their works covered in SBC art collections for nearly one hundred years and their works as an example to discuss the diverse forms of existence of American realism art. Although painters in the second half of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century were usually classified into two distinct centuries, they are closely linked in many aspects such as the subject matter, training methods, style and variety of expressions. The examples presented in this article demonstrate the complexity and aesthetical diversity of American art.
