Local recurrence of cancer is the main cause of postoperative death in colorectal cancer. The local recurrence rate in patients with colorectal cancer in the UK is approximately 14% after resection. About 80% of the disease patients have local recurrence of cancer within 2 years after surgery. Most people can not perform further “treatment” surgery. Clinical and experimental studies suggest that local recurrence may result from intraoperative metastases of surviving exfoliative cells, and suturing materials used to reconstruct anastomosis may also play a role in this mechanism, commonly referred to as implant metastasis. In order to study the local recurrence of colorectal cancer caused by the sutures of exfoliated cancer cells, the authors compared the braided cords, polyethylene glycol braided cords, polypropylene monofilaments, and stainless steel monofilaments, respectively, to the meshing and transport of intramucosal lumens.
