新闻可以说是有用信息的及时交流。在过去主要靠速记、照相、电报、电话与铅字排版。现在普遍用的是磁带录音与录相、卫星传真、电视与计算机排版等等。可以说,随着科技的发展,新闻的手段亦将与日增进。没有一定的信息的及时交流,或透明度不高,人民是无从当家做主的。
