数学是一门研究现实世界中的空间形式和数量关系的科学,它被广泛地应用于各科学领域中,是其理论研究与实际计算的基本工具。而数学问题的推理与计算、物理量之间的相互关系的表示都要通过数学符号的使用来完成。在撰写科技论著时,就需要使用规范的具有确定含义的数学符号,否则在科技交流中引起混乱、误解,甚至导致严重的错误和造成损失。关于数学符号的使用,早在1982年原国家标准局就制定了国家标准GB 3102.11—82《物理科学和技术中使用的数学符号》,1986年原国家标准局对此项标准进行了修订,发布了GB 3102.11—86
