From the winter of 1943 to the spring of 1944, a “three banning movement” that banned smoking, gambling and dancing as the mainstay of students and spread to other social strata broke out in Nanjing, a Japanese-puppet ruling center. This anti-Japanese patriotic movement rapidly expanded from Nanjing to other areas and had a wide range of social impacts. It played a role in cracking down the rule of Japan and the Puppet countries, educating the youth and the common people and purifying the social atmosphere. The outbreak of the banning movement was the result of the intensification of various social conflicts in the enemy-occupied areas at that time. The CCP played an active role among them and the internal conflicts between the puppet regime and the pseudo-puppet regime also played a role in fueling the occurrence and development of the movement
